{"id":48437,"date":"2020-07-17T10:10:11","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T14:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/piel-l.org\/blog\/?p=48437"},"modified":"2020-07-17T15:42:44","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T20:12:44","slug":"the-abo-blood-group-locus-and-a-chromosome-3-gene-cluster-associate-with-sarscov-2-respiratory-failure-in-an-italian-spanish-genome-wide-association-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/piel-l.org\/blog\/48437","title":{"rendered":"The ABO blood group locus and a chromosome 3 gene cluster associate with SARSCoV-2 respiratory failure in an Italian-Spanish genome-wide association analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Respiratory failure is a key feature of severe Covid-19 and a critical driver of mortality, but<br \/>\nfor reasons poorly defined affects less than 10% of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methods<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We included 1,980 patients with Covid-19 respiratory failure at seven centers in the Italian<br \/>\nand Spanish epicenters of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in Europe (Milan, Monza, Madrid, San<br \/>\nSebastian and Barcelona) for a genome-wide association analysis. After quality control and<br \/>\nexclusion of population outliers, 835 patients and 1,255 population-derived controls from<br \/>\nItaly, and 775 patients and 950 controls from Spain were included in the final analysis.
