No creo que fuera una \u00abinocentada\u00bb del d\u00eda 28 de diciembre, pero el 29 de diciembre se inform\u00f3 que el Comit\u00e9 de la FDA para productos Dermatol\u00f3gicos y Oftalmol\u00f3gicos decidi\u00f3 por 9 a 0 votos proponer la autorizaci\u00f3n de la FDA a la solicitud de registro de BIMATOPROST (Limugan, en colirio para glaucoma) con una nueva indicaci\u00f3n terap\u00e9utica: \u00abENDURECER, ALARGAR Y OSCURECER LAS PESTA\u00d1AS\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Para febrero de 2009 el laboratorio Allergan lanzar\u00e1 como Latisse con un aplicador especial para las pesta\u00f1as, esta nueva \u00abinnovaci\u00f3n terap\u00e9utica\u00bb:

\n Allergan wins FDA approval to market eyelash enhancer.<\/p>\n
The Wall Street Journal: (12\/27, B5, Rundle) reported that \u00abAllergan, Inc. said it received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to market Latisse, a beauty treatment that increases the length, thickness, and darkness of eyelashes by using\u00bb bimatoprost, \u00aba drug the company developed to treat glaucoma\u00bb that sells \u00abunder the brand name Lumigan. The drug’s use as a beauty aid was discovered by patients and eye doctors, who have reported for years that a side effect of the Lumigan drops is enhanced eyelashes.\u00bb According to Allergan, \u00abLatisse’s retail price will be $120 for a 30-day supply bottle for both eyes. The treatment is applied daily to the base of the upper lashes with a disposable applicator.\u00bb<\/p>\n
Allergan said that \u00ab‘full results’ occur in 16 weeks,\u00bb Bloomberg News (12\/27, Larkin) added. The company noted that \u00ablashes could grow differently in one eye from the other in a single patient,\u00bb including \u00abdifferences in ‘length, thickness, fullness,’ color, and direction of the hair growth.\u00bb Still, on Dec. 5, the \u00abFDA’s Dermatologic and Ophthalmic Drugs Advisory Committee voted 9-0…that the benefits of Latisse outweighed its risks.\u00bb In addition, the panel \u00abrecommended that Allergan study use of the drug in certain patient groups once it is approved, including young people and cancer patients who have lost their eyelashes because of chemotherapy.\u00bb<\/p>\n
According to WebMD (12\/26, Hitti), Latisse \u00abwill be available by prescription.\u00bb If the product \u00abis stopped, eyelashes will gradually return to their previous appearance as new eyelashes grow in.\u00bb Additionally, \u00abLatisse may cause darkening of the eyelid skin, which may be reversible, and it ‘may also cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye, which is likely to be permanent,'\u00bb Allergan said. The product \u00abmay also promote hair growth in other skin areas that it frequently touches, so Allergan recommends blotting it off any skin other than the upper eyelid’s lash line to prevent that side effect.\u00bb The company said that \u00abLatisse was well-tolerated in its clinical trials, with the most common side effects being eye redness, itchy eyes, and skin hyperpigmentation.
